Music Video Analysis - Pop Genre - One Direction - Live While We're Young

The genre of music that I am going to be focusing on is the Pop genre. The pop genre is typically known for using fun and vibrant colours in their videos; making you want to dance, sing along and feel happy about yourself. The pop genre is also known for having very upbeat songs that are enjoyable for most audiences. We can tell that this music video is from the pop genre because of mainly the mise-en-scene and the music/lyrics itself.

The mise-en-scene in the video shows us that this song is from the pop genre through mainly the colours of the clothing, props and setting. Everything is very colourful and as soon as the music begins the song/video makes you want to dance. Props such as beach balls, footballs and water guns allow the music video to have the fun and 'feel good' factor to it as it adds an element of mischief. The clothing that the people in the music video are also colourful, fun and comfortable and this makes the video easy to watch and enjoy as the people look like they're enjoying themselves too.

This music video in particular is mostly performance based by having dance routines, this is also very common in most pop genre music videos and again this allows the viewer to enjoy themselves as they can follow and learn the dance. Also the way that there is more people than just the band in the video adds to the fun/party feel as they too are having a lot of fun playing games and dancing. Lyrics such as "Tonight lets have fun and live while we're young" again fit in with the title of the song and the pop genre because it is all about partying and having fun.

Lastly the way that this music video is shot is again very typical to the pop genre. The different range of shots and fast paced editing also fits in with the pop genre because it fit the fast pace of the song and the range of shots again make the video appear to be more fun.
